New beacon in the port of Marsaxlokk, in Malta
04-11-2020
The port of Marsaxlokk, in Malta, has released the new Qrejten breakwater, executed by Bonnici Brothers after the award of the public tender launched by Transport Malta, a public entity that manages the ports. Almarin has provided an onshore beacon about seven meters high to mark the end of the breakwater, which is 110 meters long.
The ALT7 tower, with a diameter of one meter, is made of galvanized steel and painted with white and red stripes. It has an access door and interior ladder for maintenance and it is equipped with an LED marine lantern at the top with a range of up to 12 NM. These beacons comply with the recommendations of the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA). The construction of the new breakwater has involved an investment of 4 million euros to improve access and use of the port of Marsaxlokk, especially for the fishermen who demanded protection in that inner area of ??the port.
